WELCOME TO MOMMY TEACHER
Welcome to Mommy Teacher!
My name is Rebecca Murray. I am a stay at home mom who is also an Elementary School Teacher. I recently decided to take some time off from teaching to stay at home with my son. I was in the classroom for 9 years, and I have taught several subjects.
As teacher, I was asked by parents,"How can you help my child?, or "How can I challenge my child more?" With that in mind, I have decided to start this blog to help parents answer those questions.
Please feel free to post any comments, ideas or questions. Please remember to do this in polite, mindful manner.
Thank you.

Bullying
Many children are bullied at school. Did you know most bullying usually occurs in places where there are no adults present, such as, hallways and bathrooms? Bullying even occurs in places where their a lot children, such as the cafeteria, schools and yes, the classroom. It can happen anywhere. As a teacher, at Orange Elementary School, in Orange, VA, I was introduced to a great program to prevent bullying in schools. It was called Olweus Bullying Prevention. It involves teaching children about bullying and how to prevent it. The program has lessons, in which, children take part in scenarios that model ways to stop bullying even before it starts. For more information on this program click on the link to the right labeled Olweus Bullying Prevention. It is great for schools and parents!
Quote of the Day
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. - Melody Beattie

Good Day Everyone!
It is a hot and beautiful day here in VA. I recently just saw a back to school commerical. It is right around the corner. I can't believe the summer has gone so fast. What did you do with you child this summer? Remember reading is a very important activity during the summer. Did you know your child's reading level could drop one level if they don't continue to reading during the summer? I had many parents tell me my son or daughter was reading at 2nd grade level when the finished 1s t grade. What happened? The first thing that I ask them is did your son or daughter read this summer. They tell me no. I tell them that reading is a skill and needs to be practiced daily, and even over the summer!

Good Morning Everyone!
A special quote for everyone: Live life fully while you're here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You're going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human. - Anthony Robbins
